Gail Schumann has a Masters in Social Work from University of Maryland, which she obtained after her first career in the film industry. Her interest in working with people brought her into the film industry to begin with and so the transition into social work was a natural for her and something about which she felt passionate. She has continued her education and interest in becoming an excellent therapist by starting the Washington School of Psychiatry Training program in 2011 where she continues to learn about techniques and theories to help her clients. She is a warm, engaging therapist with a dedication to helping clients develop strong, secure relationships and life-long coping skills.

Gail regularly attend workshops, seminars and conferences to stay abreast of current research, theories and therapeutic techniques and participates in a monthly peer consultation groups to get support and guidance from other experienced clinicians in the field. She is pursuing further education in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy and courses at the Washington School of Psychiatry. As well, she participates in a self-study group to develop a further understanding of Self-Psychology.

Experience
Since 2008, Gail has worked at the Family Service Foundation in Laurel, Maryland providing individual, couples and family therapy to clients with a variety of presenting issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, family of origin issues, adjustment reactions and family transitions. Previously, Gail interned at a variety of settings including Catholic University Counseling Center providing support and therapy to college students dealing with issues of anxiety, depression, LGBTQ issues, sexual abuse and trauma issues. In her previous career, Gail worked as a freelance producer in the film/video documentary field focusing on productions dealing with social justice issues. Gail is currently enrolled in an intensive two-year psychodynamic psychotherapy program through the Washington School of Psychiatry, and participates in weekly peer group supervision, various workshops for continuing education, and ongoing training in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy.
